Write-ups of work where the only honest evidence is a number. Each entry keeps the measurements that justified a change, and the ones that sent me the wrong way for an afternoon.

Design variants

Five layouts for the same entry, on the same sheet, in the same colours and faces as every other drawing here. Same words, same measurements: only the arrangement, the movement and the way the figures are drawn change. A switch at the top of each moves between them.

  • V1 RailReading column with a margin rail for notes and section numbers. Section rules wipe across; figures draw themselves stroke by stroke. Plotted into SVG at build time, no chart library.
  • V2 ColumnOne centred measure under a large drawing number, figures across the full sheet. Blocks lift into place on arrival and each figure is uncovered left to right. Observable Plot, rendered at build time.
  • V3 IndexThe sheet carries its own contents down the left, tracking the reader, with a progress rule under it. Recharts, hydrated on view.
  • V4 ConsoleEvery block labelled in a left gutter like an instrument rack. Readouts count up; each panel is uncovered by a printing sweep. ECharts, imported on approach.
  • V5 PinnedThe argument scrolls on the left while its figure stays pinned on the right until the next one takes over. Plates computed with d3-scale at build time.

The long-hand version of the first entry lives in the repository as docs/performance-history.md, with every commit hash. This sheet is the readable cut.
